Do you feel like your life is getting hit by a Category 5 hurricane right now?
When we face massive challenges—whether that’s financial strain, health issues, or heartbreak—it's easy to experience soul-crushing exhaustion. We try to fix relationships, build careers, and overcome obstacles by flapping our wings as hard as we can. But eventually, we just lose altitude.
If you feel completely burned out and have absolutely nothing left to give today, it might be time to stop acting like a pigeon and start acting like an eagle.
The Lesson From Nature
There is a fascinating phenomenon in nature regarding how different birds handle severe storms. When a massive storm approaches, almost all birds react the same way: they panic. They flap their wings frantically, expend a massive amount of energy, and dive into the trees to wait out the rain. They rely entirely on their own frantic energy to survive.
But the eagle is different.
When an eagle sees a storm approaching, it doesn't just try to outfly it. It doesn't hide. Instead, it flies directly to the highest spot and waits. When the storm hits, the eagle locks its wings. It allows the fierce, violent winds to push it higher and higher until it is completely above the cloud line. While the storm rages below, the eagle glides peacefully above it.
It didn't escape the storm by flapping harder. It conquered the storm by using the storm's own winds to lift it higher.
A 3,000-Year-Old Secret to Renewing Your Strength
Our default instinct when life gets hard is to "flap harder." We work 60 to 80 hours a week, we stress, we try to control everything, and we end up exhausted, hiding in the branches wondering why we're not getting anywhere.
In the book of Isaiah (Chapter 40), there is a famous verse that offers a better way:
"Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles."
Notice it doesn't say they will flap like hummingbirds; it says they will soar like eagles.
To "hope in the Lord" (or wait on the Lord) doesn't mean doing nothing. It means trusting in a wind bigger than you. It means stopping the frantic striving, setting your intentions, and letting a higher power lift you above the chaos.
Lock Your Wings
The storm you are facing right now was not sent to destroy you. If you shift your perspective, the very winds you're terrified of can be the exact thing that elevates you to a level of peace you've never known.
You don't need more energy today. You just need to lock your wings, let go of the need to control the storm, and let God do the heavy lifting.
